“TOC” in the case of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) refers to Transfer of Credit, which enables learners to transfer marks to their NIOS records from previously obtained subjects in other boards, thus avoiding the need to re-sit for examinations.
This is what it is:-
To elaborate, students who have obtained passes in equal or higher level subjects in other boards that standardized NIOS (10th or 12th) are afforded the opportunity to apply for credit in Transfer of Credit (TOC) facility.
Who is eligible:
The facility can be accessed by learners using other recognized regional boards of school education who have been able to pass at least one subject but have not yet been able to qualify in the course.
Procedure:
Learners who satisfy the conditions are permitted to transfer credit in two subjects maximum to their NIOS record if they have already passed these subjects in their previous board examinations.
If a learner has passed all but one or two subjects in a previous examination, those subjects will be transferred and recorded as passed on the learners NIOS mark sheet.
For learners who have passed all subjects in their previous board however, they stand a chance to take ‘improvement exam’ but are not eligible for the TOC.
Key considerations:
It is prudent to find out whether the preceding board of the student is recognized for TOC together with whether the subjects passed are included in the set subjects offered by NIOS.
TOC should be applied for during the admission period.
TOC requires payment.
You are able to request TOC for both public examinations.
